Short Profile

Nymphenburg String Soloists
(Nymphenburger Streichersolisten)
Modelled on the legendary Berlin Amati Ensemble oft he 1960s, top-class soloists and section leaders from the established and leading Munich chamber music and orchestral scene formed a rousing and dynamic string ensemble in 2005. Thanks to the extremely effective synthesis of spontaneity, personal commitment and the outstanding instrumental skills of its individual members, the ensemble developed an unmistakably transparent sound and a highly virtuoso „signature“ within just a few years and is known for interpretations that are both transparent and lucid as well as emotionally compelling. In addition to the classical repertoire, the ensemble is interested in performing rarely performed works and exploring exciting, contemporary new works for string ensembles. Numerous premieres and first performances for string ensembles are impressive evidence of this.
The artistic director, primaria and soloist of the renowned ensemble is the well-known and charismatic violinist Angelika Lichtenstern.
Angelika Lichtenstern is regarded as a breathtakingly brillant violinist and an uncompromising, musical border crosser with no fear of contact. She has long since established herself among the virtuosos of her instrument with renowned ensembles and numerous concerts in England, France, Italy, Japan, Austria, Switzerland and the USA. Angelika Lichtenstern began her violin studies with her mother, Anneliese Lichtenstern, and subsequently studied with Prof. Max Rostal in Bern and Prof. Igor Ozim in Cologne. Masterclasses with Nathan Milstein, Ruggiero Ricci and Zakhar Bron, among others, round off her artistic portfolio. She was a scholarship holder of the Matthias-Klotz-Foundation in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and is winner oft the Tartini Music Prize. Angelika Lichtenstern plays on a master instrument by Michele Angelo Bergonzi (Cremona) from 1755.
